The Killing of Michael X

by Cory Hinkle

WORLD PREMIERE

JACKALOPE THEATRE

Mar. 20 - Apr. 13, 2014

★★★ "Integrates film and live performance impressively, especially for a storefront-theater budget"

-- Kris Vire, Time Out Chicago

"Fascinating... Ahmed's gutsy production delivers a grand payoff."

-- Justin Hayford, Chicago Reader

"Fast-paced, frenetic, unrepentantly non-linear...positively daring...an achievement worth seeing"

- Centerstage

"...In Cory Hinkle's 'The Killing of Michael X,' now in its world premiere under Kaiser Ahmed's direction, cinematic references...serve as film buff Celia Wallace's lingua franca, whether in the live-action portions or in the film segments that play out in three projection areas."

-- Kerry Reid, Chicago Tribune

"That rare piece of art...delivering on all its potential"

-- NewCity Stage

"I was blown away."

-- The Fourth Walsh

Somewhere in Middle America, teenagers Celia and Randy careen down a dark highway in a stolen Lexus. Cut to: Big Pharma, a disappearing brother, a femur unearthed in a backyard dig.  As the mysteries mount and the body count rises, Celia goes in search of her revenge, but she keeps getting closer to her own loss. Every road trip movie ends with redemption, but will this one?  Developed at the Bay Area Playwrights Festival, the Playwright’s Foundation’s “In the Rough Series,” the Brown/Trinity Playwrights Rep, and New York Theater Workshop, Jackalope Theatre proudly presents The Killing of Michael X, a humorous, tragic, and intensely human world premiere.
